Week 242

The week of Apr 25, 2016 – May 1, 2016

Feeling relaxed…

Monday: Gym: super circuit. A visit to the nursery for a belated present to my mom. Food Lover’s Market shopping. Side project coding. En-mass installing of apps onto my new phone. Reading.

Tuesday: Attended a book launch at Kalk Bay Books. Interesting subject of criminals in the very early days of the Cape colony. Murderers, Miscreants and Mutineers, by Nigel Pen. Didn’t buy it as I have enough to read as it is. Finished reading The World According to Garp, by John Irving.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve known of this novel for years but had never read it until now. I loved it. A very remarkable tragicomedy. It has rich characters and a story spanning lifetimes.

Wednesday: Public holiday: Freedom Day. Did some body corporate work. Gym: personal trainer session. Grocery shopping. The rest of the day spent playing around with the PCL library.

Thursday: Got most apps installed on my new phone. Except for my own apps that make my podcast listening more efficient. More PCL tutorials.

Friday: Grocery shopping. Wasted time on the net.

Saturday: Built a plinth for my display cabinet which I’ll be giving to Tina who needs it more than me. Lunch with mom at Ocean Basket. A new experience for me was a live rugby match at Newlands to watch the Stormers vs. The Waratahs with Paul and Sandra. Dinner afterwards at Banana Jam.

Sunday: A walk up Lion’s Head with Patrick and Kathleen, her challenge for a cubs badge. Taking it really easy with lots of breaks makes it an easy climb. A little woodwork and then a wasteful but relaxing evening on YouTube.

My work week was divided as follows: 25% testing, 25% bug fixing, 50% other.

Podcasts listened to this week: Making It 068; Pit Pass – China; Code Newbies; Hello World 65; Wood Talk 306; Software Engineering Radio 255; Hanselminutes 0525; Cpp Cast 055;
